Am I first !? Charlotte, what's your dad's mix ratio for rapeseed oil to steam oil for general lubrication? I recall him stating in one of his youtube videos but can't seem to locate which one.

That is what I wanted to know, I have some 1000 grade oil in a gallon jug, that I bought 40 years ago kept dropping marbles in it to eliminate the air space. after getting it I was given pint tins of 460 grade for free and have been using it for 30 years.
Gerald.
Hiya Gerald,
Dad said for brass engines (or smaller engines) he uses 900 grade steam oil. For larger engines (or full size engines) he uses 1000 grade steam oil.
Let me know if you need any more info on this.

We call it 'koolzaadolie' (Dutch). Works great in my paper shredder (avoiding the cost of very expensive 'special oil' in tiny containers from the manufacturer) and (bonus) is very useful in the kitchen too.
Canola was developed by Agriculture Canada as disease resistant and high yield rapeseed plant.
What I want to know is what grade of steam oil is he using?
it is also called Canola oil here in Australia, where we grow vast fields of it - very pretty when in flower.
Canola is apparently short for "Canadian" and "Oil", being a different cultivar/product bred to reduce glucosinolates and erucic acid, which occurs naturally in rapeseed oil. For the purposes of steam lubrication, I bet there is zero difference between the two oils...
Apparently I am told that Rapeseed Oil is called "Canola Oil" in the USA ......... I assume that it is the same stuff :-))))
Hi Tim!
I asked Dad and the best formula for general lubrication as of today is as follows:
60% steam oil, 20% machine oil & 20% cold pressed, organic, extra virgin rapeseed oil.
Rapeseed oil being nicknamed 'THE SPECIAL STUFF' traditionally.
I will be posting a video explaining the reasons WHY this formula works and I'll send out an email notification when the video is cooked and ready to serve.
Thanks for your post. It was indeed the first post and a very good one at that!
Charlotte.
