We only ever see close ups of Keith's metal band saw, would it be possible to show a full picture & give the make as I am intending to buy one in the near future. His looks to be eminently suitable for model engineering tasks.

Hiya Mark,
Ok Ill go and have a look this afternoon x
I have just watched part 20 of the Stuart construction series & seen the Draper band saw. Thanks for this, but it was the other band saw that I wanted the make of. I saw it in the workshop tour video but couldn' t see the make. It looks like the wood cutting band saws that you see in the DIY stores but I understand that these run too fast for metal even with a metal cutting blade. I have seen Keith using his saw many times to cut small brass parts , but always in close up.
Hi MagicBill,
I can't argue with that :)
After living in Ghana for 4 years I have become extra cautious about the 'throw away' generation.
Dad is very good at fixing all manor of things and never let us cast things aside easily.
With equipment, it depends on the person, there's no right or wrong way... unless you chop your fingers off like my uncle Nigel :) then that's the wrong way!
(sorry Nigel!).
Thanks for the post MagicBill :) x
Charlotte,
I would tend to agree with you but you must understand that my dad lived through the Depression. They didn't throw away anything and were very clever on using what they had. Years ago I went down to the basement and I saw a big rats nest of wire. I asked him what it was. He said it was part of a soldering gun that didn't work. He took it apart, found the break and repaired it. And rewound the transformer coil in the gun. I told him he could have gone and bought a new one and he said it costs money.
After my dad passed away, I got his bandsaw that he built including the wooden pulleys for the saw. Every time I use it, I am reminded of his ingenuity and his resourcefulness.

Hi htmagic,
Thanks for posting!
Dad's response to building a bandsaw is that they are fairly inexpensive to purchase and it saves the time of building one. In Dad's words 'we are all running out of time....' lol.
I had the same thought about building a nifty piece of camera equipment (a glider). In theory it is not difficult and you can purchase the bits needed fairly cheaply. I didn't end up making it and found one on ebay for a steal. Less faffing about.

Hi Mark,
There's a larger view in the "guided tour of the workshop" video.
Here's the link for you:

Why buy when you can build? Dave Gingery wrote a series of books, including Build your own Bandsaw. My dad built one out of wood and a washing machine motor. It cuts wood and metal just fine. http://gingerybookstore.com/MetalBandsaw.html
Hi Mark,
Thanks for posting. I'll have a snoop around the workshop and provide more bandsaw photos + more info for you in my next video.
